The Azure price increase 2027 customers are hearing about is real, and it lands on 1 February. Microsoft told affected customers in a Service Health notice. If you run anything in Singapore or Europe, check your setup.
Checked against Microsoft and AWS sources on 4 Nov 2026.
Short answer: From 1 February 2027, Microsoft is raising prices for many Azure virtual machines and storage services by 8% to 17% in seven regions. Singapore goes up 8%. India’s Azure regions aren’t on the list. AWS hasn’t announced a general increase.

What Microsoft told affected customers
In a Service Health notice to affected customers, Microsoft said prices for specific Azure Virtual Machines and Storage services rise by 8% to 17% in seven regions from 1 February 2027: Dublin (17%), France Central and France South (11%), Amsterdam, Norway East and Norway West (9%), and Southeast Asia (Singapore, 8%). Customers have reproduced the notice on Microsoft Q&A, where a reply confirms there’s no public announcement.
The notice excludes some VM series and 15 storage services. Older v1 and v2 VM series are excluded from this regional change. Partner reports describe a separate price change for those older series, so check your own Azure Service Health notice.
Are Azure’s India regions affected?
No. Central, South and West India aren’t on the list. Singapore is.
On 4 Nov 2026, the Azure Retail Prices API listed a Linux D2s v5 VM on pay-as-you-go at USD 0.12 an hour in Singapore (about USD 0.13 after the 8% rise, our estimate), USD 0.101 in Central India and USD 0.135 in South India. These are list prices, before discounts, reservations, savings plans and taxes.
South India costs more than Singapore here, so price your own SKUs first. Moving also means migration work, egress charges, region-tied reservations, and latency and data residency checks for your contracts and DPDP planning. Our legacy migration post covers the rest.
What to check before the Azure price increase 2027
- Open your notice. In the Azure portal, open Service Health, then Health advisories, and read the pricing notice’s Impacted Resources tab. No notice likely means you had no affected resources when Microsoft sent it.
- List your VMs and storage in the seven regions. Singapore shows as “Southeast Asia”.
- Check each VM series against the exclusions. A community moderator’s answer on Microsoft Q&A says newer series such as Dsv5 are affected in Singapore. Microsoft hasn’t said so publicly.
- Check storage too. Managed disks and file shares aren’t on the exclusion list. General Block Blob and Standard Page Blob are.
- Price the change. Apply your region’s percentage to prices from the pricing calculator or the Retail Prices API.
Reservations and savings plans after 1 Feb 2027
The same date brings a public change to reservation exchanges. Reservations for VMs and similar services bought after 1 February 2027 can’t be exchanged, and older ones keep one final exchange. Microsoft’s FinOps team explains the choices.
A reservation lets you “lock in a lower price when you commit to a specific VM type, region, and term” (Microsoft). The notice doesn’t say how existing reservations are treated after 1 February, so ask Microsoft or your partner in writing before you buy. A savings plan is “a fixed dollar amount per hour for a one-year or three-year term” and applies across regions, including after a move.
What AWS has said so far
As of 4 Nov 2026, AWS hasn’t announced a general 2027 price increase, including for Mumbai, Hyderabad and Singapore. The one scheduled change is for EC2 Capacity Blocks for ML (reserved GPU blocks). Their pricing page says “The current prices are scheduled to be updated next in January, 2027”, without saying which way. Watch AWS What’s New for later changes.
